Cameras, Part 2 by Doc McIntyre
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
Got this response to my “Not using your camera on a video call communicates something” nugget:
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
Doc, I recently interviewed online for a promotion within my current company, and three of the four interviewers (who would be my peers) had their cameras off during the entire interview. After the interview, I called the Hiring Manager and withdrew my application because of the lack of professionalism and respect from the panel.
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
Moral of the story:
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
Not using your camera sends a bad vibe to current team members and prospective team members.
LEADERSHIP Energy is the “heartbeat” of a kick-ass Culture.
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
In the example above, the candidate could feel from the lack of energy coming through an interview process over a teams call so much that he withdrew his application.
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
You don’t have to be jumping up and down acting like a lunatic to provide great energy, you just need to recognize that people are watching you and they will to some degree, or another reflect what you show them.
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
If you want your people to like where they work and be energetic and engaged, then you need to be as well. If you want your people to be committed to you, then you need to be committed to them. If you want your people to ask for help and collaborate, then you need to ask for help and collaborate.
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
We humans have a remarkable tendency to make things so much more complicated than they need to be. Your people want leadership, they want energy, and they want to win. Just. Like. You.
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
Go bring the energy to your teams, and if needed, create meeting standards and implement basic meeting expectations for your team to follow (and as always, you go first).
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
If you accept a wide range of variations in the way people do things around your work, you should fully expect a wide range of results where you work. (Hint: your customers don’t want a wide range of results).
p span[style*=”font-size”] { line-height: 1.6; }
