Summary

The Quality Assurance Manager leads quality initiatives for a steel fabrication manufacturing facility, ensuring execution of the Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001 standards. This role is highly hands-on, working closely with production, engineering, and suppliers to drive quality performance while maintaining operational pace. The position also provides leadership to QA personnel and plays a key role in building a strong, sustainable quality culture on the shop floor.


Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and execute the facility Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 standards
• Maintain documentation including material test reports (MTRs), certificates of conformance (COCs), and customer-required certifications
• Oversee calibration and testing programs for all measuring and inspection equipment
• Lead supplier quality initiatives including qualification, performance management, and issue resolution
• Facilitate supplier audits and oversee quality reviews of critical vendors
• Oversee incoming material inspections and maintain inspection programs
• Manage product quality assurance programs and approve product release
• Lead product testing, audits, and inspection activities
• Provide direct quality support to production, resolving issues in real time on the shop floor
• Develop method sheets outlining manufacturing procedures and process controls
• Perform and oversee in-process inspections including dimensional, weld, and coating inspections
• Coordinate off-site testing including weld procedures, qualifications, and customer-required testing
• Ensure compliance with ISIR requirements and submission standards
• Maintain customer certification and inspection activities, including documentation and release
• Interface with customer representatives regarding quality expectations and performance
• Lead, coach, and develop QA personnel, including training and certification efforts
• Assist in training and certification of facility welders
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality and production processes


Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably steel fabrication
• Technical degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication
• Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and manufacturing quality management systems
• Hands-on experience with arc welding processes for carbon, stainless, and alloy materials
• Familiarity with liquid and powder coating processes
• Knowledge of ASTM specifications, AWWA standards, and AWS/ASME welding codes
• Experience with inspection methods including dimensional checks and NDT techniques (dye penetrant, magnetic particle, dry film thickness)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to develop teams


Preferred Certifications

• CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
• CQE (Certified Quality Engineer)
• Lean Manufacturing certification
