About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Director of Electrical Engineering to lead the electrical engineering department and provide technical oversight for complex building design projects. This leadership role is responsible for managing engineering staff, ensuring the quality and accuracy of electrical designs, maintaining compliance with applicable codes and standards, and supporting project execution from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the electrical engineering discipline for assigned projects, ensuring technical excellence, quality, and timely project delivery.
- Oversee the preparation and review of electrical engineering calculations, system designs, specifications, and construction documents.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure projects are completed within established schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
- Meet with clients and project stakeholders to evaluate project requirements, provide technical guidance, and develop effective engineering solutions.
- Direct and coordinate the work of electrical engineers, designers, and technical staff throughout all phases of project development.
- Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and other engineering disciplines.
- Review, approve, sign, and seal engineering plans and specifications as required by professional licensure.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, coaching, and technical development opportunities for electrical engineering staff.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, staffing, and workforce planning initiatives.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and support career development and succession planning.
- Manage engineering staff assignments, workload balancing, and project scheduling.
- Develop, maintain, and improve electrical engineering standards, design details, and quality assurance procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, life safety requirements, and internal engineering quality standards.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, proposal development, presentations, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Foster strong client relationships and identify opportunities for repeat business and expanded services.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to establish departmental goals, staffing strategies, and operational improvements.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive electrical engineering experience within the built environment.
- Prior experience leading engineering teams or managing an electrical engineering department preferred.
- Expert knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70/NEC) and applicable energy codes.
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA 110.
- Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software, including AGi32, COMcheck, SKM Power Tools, generator sizing software (Cummins Power Suite or equivalent), and Revit MEP.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Autodesk BIM 360 (or Autodesk Construction Cloud), and Microsoft Office Suite.
